SoClean 2 FAQs

Please take a moment to read through some of our Frequently Asked Questions:

The SoClean is a revolutionary and patented CPAP sanitising device. It uses activated oxygen (Ozone) to attack and destroy any germs, bacteria or mould present in your CPAP mask, hose (and reservoir if applicable), leaving you with fresh and clean CPAP equipment.

The SoClean works by generating Ozone and pumps it through your reservoir, hose, and mask. This Ozone eradicates any germs, bacteria or mould it comes in contact with.

Not at all! Follow these 3 simple steps and you’re ready to go:

1. Make the easy one-time connection to your CPAP equipment.
2. Set the SoClean timer.
3. Place your mask inside the SoClean unit first thing in the morning and the machine does the rest.

Different CPAP models are made in different ways but we try to provide a compatible solution for as many as possible. In short, if your CPAP machine uses a heated hose then you will probably need an adapter. Head over to the Compatibility page for more information. If you're at all in doubt, please contact us and we'll do our best to help.

In the unlikely event that you don't like the SoClean, simply contact us and we will make the necessary arrangements to get the machine back and refund you in full less any delivery costs.

Ozone is formed when a third atom of oxygen (O) is added to the molecular oxygen we breathe (O2) forming a new molecule (O3). This new molecule of activated oxygen (also known as ozone) has the amazing ability to destroy organisms such as bacteria and viruses through oxidation. While activated oxygen is very powerful, it also has a very short life cycle. After it’s generated, it reverts back into the oxygen we breathe in about 2 hours.

Ozone is used in many industrial processes. Ozone is safe if used in a contained environment where the ozone has been allowed to return to Oxygen before it is released. However the introduction of Ozone Air Purifiers which pump Ozone in to the Oxygen around the home has generated some bad press because the Ozone is not contained.

SoClean uses Ozone in a controlled, closed environment. The Ozone generator in the machine runs for between 5-10 minutes in order to create enough ozone to be pumped through the CPAP equipment and kill all germs on its journey. Once this cycle is finished the machine has a 2 hour rest period which is ample time for the Ozone to revert back into Oxygen. At the end of this cycle the mask can be removed from the chamber and is safe to use.

Used daily, the SoClean will leave your CPAP equipment germ free. However it does not remove oils and solids. Therefore we suggest wiping your mask once a week to remove oils, lipstick, etc. We recommend SoClean sanitising wipes to clean your mask. We also recommend cleaning the entire system occasionally to remove any dust, and particles etc from the reservoir and hose. We suggest using the SoClean Sanitising Pre Wash to ensure that the Ozone does not react with the detergent.

You can use any detergent to clean the equipment prior to the first use however some detergents contain fragrances which the Ozone will attack (increasing the odour). We recommend a  fragrance free detergent.

SoClean Pre Wash solution has been specially designed to work with SoClean and reduce the odour. Here's a link to the product in our store.

Not something we recommend as it releases ozone into the room. However, although the concentration of the ozone within the chamber is extremely powerful, once you open the lid you are changing its dilution with oxygen in the room. Once the Ozone hits the Oxygen it is diluted to a safe level.

The by-product from the reaction of Ozone is a bleach/chlorine type smell. The greater the reaction (in other words the dirtier the system) the stronger the smell. The first few times you use SoClean the smell will be stronger as the Ozone attacks the germs. As you use the SoClean regularly the reaction reduces and so the odour reduces.

This is why it is important to clean the equipment thoroughly prior to the first use.
You will always get some odour as this is the natural by-product of the process. In a way it lets you know that the sanitisation process is working.
